Challenge - How do we make Civil War artifacts available to all?
Historical Society brings to school important documents for test digitization. Include records, newspaper, photographic etc.
Students can use these to demonstrate / experiment on best way of digitizing docs - digi cameras, scanner, built in iSight.
Students decide on organizational process - central Notebook? Teacher notebook?
Decide on naming conventions for documents
Metadata
Students decide on use of iPhoto to store individually scanned/photographed docs / records - shared iPhoto over network for grabbing?
Students create digital text of documents - transcripts, accesible
Record all steps of process for publication to
1. Let others see what is being done in school
2. Let others see how to do this project
Record video / audio / text - produce podcast / vid to publish
Media interest - building network with other projects in other towns - creating a statewide project - help from Maine Memory
Project has an end - when all docs have been recorded.
However, there is an important oral history part to this - stories handed down through generations - how to capture these? Again, utilizing local media / info outlets
